The web developer is a skilled WordPress specialist who combines programming expertise with transformational thinking and problem-solving abilities. This role requires an individual driven by an entrepreneurial spirit, who embraces technical challenges, learns quickly, and stays current with the latest development best practices. This developer will work closely with designers and project managers to create exceptional digital experiences for clients across various industries. Proficiency in WordPress custom theme development, along with strong front-end and server-side programming skills including HTML, CSS, JavaScript and PHP, is essential. 

This person could be located in the Kansas City, MO, office; Columbia, MO, office; or remote. 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Develop and maintain custom WordPress websites and landing pages for clients across various industries 

• Create custom WordPress themes, custom post types and various other custom WordPress features as needed 

• Build responsive, cross-browser compatible websites that adhere to modern web standards 

• Maintain existing sites, troubleshoot issues and implement new features

• Apply technical SEO best practices to the code

• Collaborate with designers to transform mockups into functional websites

• Work with project managers to meet deadlines and client requirements

• Educate and guide non-technical team members on web development concepts

• Stay current with industry trends, particularly in WordPress development, accessibility, usability and emerging technologies.

Knowledge and Skills:

• Strong proficiency with WordPress, including custom theme development and custom post types

• Working knowledge of HTML, CSS, JavaScript, jQuery and PHP

• Understanding of responsive design principles and cross-browser compatibility

• Experience with MySQL database management

• Working knowledge of front-end JavaScript libraries and frameworks (bonus if familiar with React)

• Familiarity with version control systems (e.g., Git)

• Knowledge of web accessibility standards and SEO best practices

• Ability to effectively communicate proactively and positively with non-technical peers

• Attention to detail and excellent time management to stay organized and meet deadlines.

Education/Experience/Certifications:

• Associate's or bachelor's degree appropriate to the supported area or in computer science (or equivalent experience)

• Three or more years of relevant experience in web development is required 

• WordPress development experience is required

• Experience working with designers and implementing designs into functional websites

• Digital/marketing agency experience is preferred, but not required.
